Chris Klemaske Inducted into American Society of Concrete Contractors Decorative Concrete Hall of Fame 2025
Chris Klemaske was inducted into the American Society of Concrete Contractors Decorative Concrete Hall of Fame in January, 2025. SUNDEK is proud to share that Chris Klemaske, SUNDEK’s Director of Commercial Development, was inducted into the American Society of Concrete Contractors Decorative Concrete Hall of Fame 2025! The award is well deserved. After more than three decades in the decorative concrete industry, Chris has made a lasting impact through her work, leadership, and advocacy.
Chris began her career in the decorative concrete industry when she joined her husband Byron’s company, Klemaske Brothers Concrete, Inc. as an office administrator. As she recalls in a recent podcast interview on the ASCC Concrete Talk podcast, she noticed invoices coming in for restoration work and asked Byron if there was a reason a woman couldn’t do that work. “He said if I could load a buffer in and out of the back of a truck and carry pails of material, then there was no reason I couldn’t do that.”
From there, Chris was unstoppable. After going through some training, she started her own concrete restoration business, Classic Concrete Care, in 1990. “I was very accustomed to being the only woman on a job,” says Chris. “It was kind of a novelty.” Chris not only worked hands-on with her team but also empowered other women to join the field, championing inclusivity and growth.
Later, Chris brought her expertise to T.B. Penick & Sons’ Innovative Concrete Services Group, collaborating with developers, public officials, designers, and artists on iconic decorative concrete projects for nearly two decades. Her contributions included renovations for landmarks like the Coney Island Boardwalk, SeaWorld San Diego, The Annenberg Visitor Center, the Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City, and the San Diego International Airport—the largest decorative concrete and terrazzo project for T.B. Penick to date. Her work was recognized with accolades such as the WOW Award for the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in 2018.
Chris has also made waves through her leadership roles, becoming the first female to serve as the National Director for the Decorative Concrete Council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) and the first female president of the San Diego Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. She was featured on the cover of Concrete Construction Magazine in 2016 as one of the industry’s most influential figures and continues to serve on numerous committees promoting sustainability and public relations within the trade.
Klemaske served as president of the American Society of Concrete Contractors for the 2023-2024 term. She remains a steadfast advocate for women in construction and a promoter of decorative concrete as a blend of art, design, and functionality.
